Adult Literacy Fredericton celebrated past successes at its 2017 AGM and Appreciation Event hosted at Government House on April 20th.  Thank you to The Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau for presenting Adult Literacy Fredericton certificates to learners and volunteer tutors in recognition of their many achievements and their commitment to our adult learning program.  Her Honour welcomed over 40 guests with an impassioned speech on the importance of improving literacy skills to bring about greater prosperity and well-being for all New Brunswickers.  Her Honour underlined the need for addressing all forms of literacy, including childhood and adult literacy, family literacy, financial literacy, digital literacy, and civic literacy.
Guest Speaker Julia Stewart, Director of the Fredericton Public Library, spoke on the expanded services, programs, activities, and resources available to library patrons and emphasized the crucial role the library plays in both literacy advancement and personal enrichment.  Jo-Ann Fellows gave a reading from her book, 385 Northumberland Street, entertaining guests with delightful vignettes about family life in days gone by.
We are grateful to Florique in Kings Place Mall who provided the beautiful bouquets presented to Julia and Jo-Ann.   A very special thank you to Kelly Baker Photography for photographing the event.
